SIALKOT, Jan 19: Some armed men shot at and injured PPP leader Malik Muhammad Shabir here on Saturday night at his outhouse near Sialkot.

Mr Shabir is a close aide of Federal Minister for National Regulation and Services Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan.

Reports said Malik Shabir was sitting at his outhouse when some armed men came there and opened fire, injuring him critically.

The accused managed their escape.

The injured was shifted to Lahore Mayo Hospital from Government Allama Iqbal Memorial DHQ Hospital, Sialkot, due to his critical condition.

Talking to newsmen at the emergency department of DHQ Hospital here, Dr Firdous strongly condemned the attack. She alleged that PML-N MPA (PP-121 Sialkot-I) Rana Muhammad Iqbal and his son Rana Arif Iqbal (president of PML-N) were involved in the attack. She vowed to lodge a case against the MPA and his son. No arrest was made so far.

Meanwhile, MPA Rana Iqbal has refuted the allegations.
