KARAK, Jan 18: Local residents are suffering for want of proper healthcare as out of the 191 sanctioned posts of doctors for the district 122 are lying vacant since long.

This was disclosed by the regional manager of Khwendo Kor (KK) Mumtaz Khan Marwat and facilitator officer Younas Khan Khattak at a press briefing here on Friday. They resolved to solve the basic problems of the people through integrated efforts.

They informed that people of all walks of life had been included in the CSO (civil society organisation) formed by the KK, which would launch an organised effort to pinpoint the most urgent issues being faced by the people and to resolve them with the help of the district, provincial and federal governments.

Chairman of the CSO Mualana Basheer Yousaf, general secretary Shakirullah Hawari and representative of social welfare department Peer Hussain Badshah were also present on the occasion.

The office-bearers of KK claimed that a brief report regarding the major issues of health, education and drinking water had been compiled by KK with the help of Awaz-i-Haq project sponsored by the National Endowment Development (NED).

They regretted that out of 191 sanctioned posts 122 were lying vacant in the healthcare centres of the district which reflected the apathy of the government towards healthcare facilities in the district.

The KK officials also informed that there was no girls’ high school in the Gurguri union council. Similarly, they added there was no girls’ primary school in other towns like Jatta Ismael Khel and Azar Khel.

They also expressed concern over the installation of a large number of hand and pressure pumps in the district, which had resulted in a rapid decrease in ground water level which would result in drought like situation in the near future. They called for construction of small dams to overcome the shortage of water.

GIRLS INJURED: Two young girls sustained critical burn injuries when fire broke out at the house of Noor Marjan in Warana Paloski area. All household items wee reduced to ashes.

Police informed that the fire broke out in a room due to electric short-circuit and two minor girls, who were the grand daughters of Noor Marjan, got burnt injuries. They were shifted to district headquarters hospital Karak. The doctors declared their condition critical.

Meanwhile, fire also broke out at the office of MNA Mufti Ajmal in Warana Mir Hassan Khel area due to short-circuit, damaging it.
