KARACHI, Jan 16: The municipal administration of Lyari Town has urged the City Government to include five major roads of the town in its ongoing development schemes, it is learnt.

The roads which are in a dilapidated condition and need repair include Shah Latif Bhittai Road, Chawkiwara Road, Tannery Road, Shah Waliullah Road and Mirza Adam Khan Road.

The town administration maintained that due to budgetary constraints, it could not renovate these roads and almost all roads in the town had been dug up by the Water & Sanitation Department of the CDGK.

The condition of Shah Latif Bhittai Road and its link roads, which include Ahmed Shah Bukhari Road, Fidha Husain Road, Haji Pir Mohammed Road and D.D. Chowdhry Road, Karabai Karimji Road, has deteriorated as no repair work has been carried out during the last many years.

Residents of Baghdadi complained that no repair work had been carried out on Fida Husain Shaikha Road for the past many years because of the indifferent attitude of the authorities.

Potholes have developed at various places on road linking Mauripur Road with Sheedi Village Road. It begins from the People’s Play Ground and after passing through Nawabad, Darayabad and Baghdadi ends at Sheedi village road.

The road is an important one as it is the shortest route for area people to reach Karachi Fish Harbour and Mauripur Road.

A survey shows that barring a few major roads, no repair work had been carried out on major roads and streets for the past several decades.

Municipal authorities have cited shortage of funds as one of the main problems for not carrying out road works in the locality, but residents say it is because of negligence on the part of municipal authorities.
