ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Law, Farooq H Naek on Tuesday said that the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) government wanted to hold elections on time.

“We do not want postponement of the elections, “he stated this while talking to a private television channel.

He opined that all the institutions should work within their defined parameters for strengthening democracy.

Replying to a question, Naek said, “For any change in the composition of the Election Commission, the Constitution will have to be amended.”

He urged Tahirul Qadri to avoid derailing democracy. The long march, which culminated in a sit-in, has defaced the image of country, because it was against democracy, he added.

Terming the demand of Tahirul Qadri extra constitutional, Naek urged him to participate in the election to be held on time.

He said that all the institutions should work for the progress, prosperity of the country and strengthening democracy.

Answering another question, he said that the Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) would decide whether to file a reference or not against the Prime Minister.

The NAB Chairman has the authority to arrest the convict, he added.
