KARACHI: Southpaws Fawad Alam and Mohtashim Ali struck fine centuries to put Karachi Whites in total command against Hyderabad on the penultimate day of their fourth-round Faysal Bank Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship match at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Pakistan discard Fawad made undefeated 142 (196 balls, 11 boundaries) and Mohtashim hit 121 off 264 balls with 11 fours and one six as the visitors posted 467-7 to claim a first-innings lead of 162 runs. Mohammad Sami also contributed handsomely to score a 90-ball 65 (six fours) in the unfinished stand of 145 with Fawad.

Sialkot were on verge of victory by reaching 114-1in pursuit of a 209-run chase against Islamabad at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Islamabad, who were 77-3 at start of play, collected 217 all out in the second innings.Multan secured a lead of 61 by dismissing Lahore Ravi for 248 in their first innings at the LCCA Ground in Lahore with left-arm paceman Rahat Ali capturing 5-44 in 25.2 overs and slow left-armer Zulfiqar Babar taking 3-99 in 40 overs.

Multan then consolidated their advantage to reach 180-4 in the second innings to enjoy an overall lead of 241 after Usman Liaquat (65) and Zeeshan Ashraf (51) added 104 for the opening wicket.

The match at the Mirpur Cricket Stadium was set for a close finish as Rawalpindi, chasing 225, reached 164-5 with Umar Waheed (69 not out) and Adnan Mufti (63) reviving their hopes by adding 90 after their side stumbled to 46-4.

Paceman Waqas Maqsood, who claimed 4-62 in the first innings, bagged all the wickets to fall thus far.

Earlier, Faisalabad’s last two wickets added 42 after they resumed at 88-8.

Lahore Shalimar were on top against Abbottabad on day two of the fixture at the Gohati Cricket Stadium in Swabi by closing the day on 251-1 with the 17-year-old opener Imran Butt striking a maiden first-class century. Imran was batting on 123 (169 balls, 17 fours) in the ongoing second-wicket partnership of 233 with Shalimar skipper Fahad-ul-Haq (114 off 171 balls, 15 boundaries).

The visiting side earlier earned a handy lead of 95 on the first innings when Abbottabad were bowled out for 104 after having resumed the day at 29-6. Emerging paceman Zia-ul-Haq took three of the wickets to end up with 4-24.

Left-handed Karachi batsman Ali Asad compiled a career-best 210 as Quetta amassed 483-8 declared on day two of their tie against Peshawar at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar. The guest player laced his marathon 484-ball innings with 24 fours and a brace of sixes.

The hosts then stuttered to 70-4 in reply.
