KARACHI, Jan 14: A policeman was gunned down in Sohrab Goth in the early hours of Monday, officials said.

They added that Shabbir Moazzam, 35, was shot dead in his house in Jamali Goth within the remit of the Sohrab Goth police station.

The latest incident has brought the number of police officials killed in the city over the past two weeks to five. Over 120 policemen were killed in Karachi last year.

The police constable sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the head, the police said, adding that the attackers fled following the shooting.

The gunfire caused fear and panic in the area.

The police later shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Sohrab Goth SHO Fasiuddin said the slain police constable was posted at the Sohrab Goth Industrial Area police post.

He added that the victim lived alone at home while his wife and two children lived in their native town of Kabirwala, Punjab.

The police suspected that Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan could have carried out the attack as no other apparent motive had been found for the killing.
