KOHAT, Jan 15: The Pakistan army deployed at the western borders with Afghanistan to check Al Qaeda infiltrators has planned fresh operations, named as Al Meezan, after receiving sensitive equipment from the United States, including hundreds of vehicles and electronic gadgets, official sources told Dawn.

Pakistan has deployed more than 70,000 troops along the border with Afghanistan stretching from Mohmand tribal agency in the northwest to Chaman in Balochistan since October 2001 following Sept 11 attacks.

The defence shipments include gas masks, chemical identifying glass, state-of-the-art signal detection systems, night vision cameras and binoculars, heat and cold resistant tents, bulletproof jackets, besides a smooth supply of petrol products.

The consignment was received at Chaklala air base from where it had been dispatched to different checkpoints through trucks and planes.

The sources said it was a clear signal that the operations against Al Qaeda would continue in Pakistan for a very long period as planned by the US and its allies till they get complete hold over the warlords and Taliban inside Afghanistan.
