CHAKWAL, Jan 13: The Zaidi Group defeated Pasha Group in the district bar association’s annual elections here.

According to the results announced on Saturday evening, the Zaidi Group clinched 11 out of the 12 seats. Advocate Malik Abdul Jalil was elected president of the association after he defeated Advocate Khawja Khalid Farooq of Pasha Group by 11 votes. A total of 298 votes were polled while some of them were rejected.

Malik Jalil got 153 votes while his rival secured 142 votes. Advocate Sardar Mohammad Afzal is the sole member of Pasha Group to win the seat of vice-president by getting 154 votes against his rival Chaudhry Tauseef Arshad’s 139 votes.

Chaudhry Mohammad Zubair was elected as general secretary with 154 votes while Sumaira Muneer Janjua was elected as joint secretary with 154 votes.

Raja Imran Rafique was elected as library secretary while Banaras Minhas is the new auditor.

TAXILA: As many as 148 registered lawyers of the Taxila bar association also elected their new office-bearers for the year 2013-14.

According to the results announced by the election commissioner of the bar Abdul Malik Sherpao, Ijaz Khan, former president of the bar association, was again elected after he defeated Amjad Zaman. Similarly, Mir Nasir Bilal was elected general secretary and Asif Janjua as joint secretary. Syed Guftar Shah was elected as vice-president
