HYDERABAD Jan 15: Three people were killed in an accident on the Kotri Bridge on Wednesday night.

Witnesses said that a Khuda ki Basti-bound bus (LS-243) had rammed into a Thatta-bound van (CD-6053), which in turn rammed into a mini-bus as a result of which three people including its cleaner were killed on the spot and three others were injured.

All the three people killed were residents of Kotri. They were identified as Qurban Ali Khoso, Ashar Ikram, and Jamal Deen Mallah.

The Kotri police registered a case. No one has been arrested so far.

The DSP, Kotri, Manzoor Khatiyan, told this correspondent over the phone that the angry passengers of the bus and the mini-bus torched the bus after damaging it badly, and added that a fire brigade was called to extinguish the fire.

ACTIVIST HURT: An activist of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement, Irfan, suffered bullet injuries in Khokhar Mohallah late Tuesday night.

Witnesses said that a man, Umair, along with his friends, who were said to be the activists of a banned jihadi outfit, arrived near Saima Plaza in Khokhar Mohallah and started arguing strongly with a man, Kashif, over some matter.

They started abusing Kashif, which annoyed his friends — Safdar, Yasir and Irfan.

The situation took a violent turn when Umair’s friends opened fire on Kashif. He, luckily, escaped unhurt but Irfan was injured.

Irfan was taken to the Civil Hospital.

Yasir lodged a case at the City police station against Shakeel, Umair, his brothers — Hasham and Rafiq — and an unidentified person under section 324 of the Qisas and Diyat Ordinance 147 and 148 PPC.

FOUR ARRESTED: The Bhittai Naggar police claimed to have arrested four dacoits on Wednesday following an armed robbery at Haji Abdul Rehman Soomro’s shop, the HDA Flats, on Wadhuwah.

The SDPO, Qasimabad, Irshad Ali, told newsmen that four unidentified armed dacoits committed a robbery at the shop.

He said that they were soon arrested. They were identified as Sabir Khan Pathan, Mubarak Ali Jamali, Abrab Magsi and Kashif Ghauri.
