LARKANA, Jan 9: A woman died and nine others, including a bank guard, received injuries after a portion of a boundary wall on the first floor of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) office collapsed near the Directorate of Schools here on Wednesday.

The woman was identified as Nazul, 35, wife of Yusif Korai, and the injured were named as Sakina Rind, Sardran Umrani, Mumtaz Meerani, Sassui Jaj, Sadori Korai, Begum Bulhar, Bakhtawar Gopang, Sughran Jaj and bank guard Sultan Buriro.

Nazul’s condition was critical when the injured were shifted to Chandka Medical College Hospital where the woman succumbed to her injuries.

The injured were stated to be recovering.

The incident took place because of overcrowding and the old construction of the office of director education where the BISP office had been housed temporarily on the first floor, said Deputy Commissioner Assadullah Abro.

The old walls could not bear the rush of people and collapsed.

Women who were standing taking support of the wall fell from the first floor and received injuries.

Larkana Deputy Commissioner Asadullah Abro who visited the scene noted that there was a lack of facilities at the centre for disbursement of money.

He urged the government to immediately shift the BISP office to some appropriate location.
