LAHORE, Jan 14: Some 3,300 police officials have been deployed to maintain law and order during byelection in the city on Wednesday (today).
Official sources said on Tuesday that 1,700 policemen and 900 volunteers from different departments will be deployed outside the polling stations. Another 700 policemen will patrol around the polling stations and other sensitive places.
The sources said all senior officers have been directed to keep a strict vigil on the polling process and ensure their presence in the field.
The candidates and their supporters have been asked to observe the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan. They have been warned that strict action would be taken against the violators.
The senior officers have also been asked to remain in touch with the control room set up at the IGP office and the provincial crisis management cell at the Punjab home department during the polling process.
