KARACHI, Jan 6: Prominent rider Mohammad Essa, who shone in the saddle in the preceding year, recaptured the Best Rider of the Year award at the Karachi Racecourse here on Sunday.

Essa piloted home 50 winners with Zaki Zakir finishing as the runner-up with 35 wins under his belt.

The Best Trainer of the Year award was shared by M. Rafiq K and Mujahid Ali who saddled 28 winners apiece. Salim Durrani finished as the runner-up with 22 winners.

Chairman of the Karachi Race Club (KRC), Brig (retired) Iftikhar Haider, presented the awards to the winners in a simple ceremony held in the paddock. Secretary of the KRC, Syed Ali Akbar Shah Rashdi, was also present.—A.Z.
