LAHORE, Jan 5: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday claimed the Punjab government has surplus wheat stock, which was sufficient to meet the province’s demands.

Chairing a meeting, he said there was no shortage of wheat or flour, while prices were also sustainable. He warned that black-marketing of wheat would not be tolerated and action would be taken against those involved.

The CM said the Punjab government currently had 2.7 million tonnes of wheat stock that was sufficient to meet demands until the new crop was harvested.

He ordered the authorities concerned to provide Rs15 subsidy on each bag of flour in Sunday and Friday bazaars, besides reviewing wheat and flour prices on a weekly basis and submit reports to him in this regard.

The CM’s Senior Adviser Sardar Zulfikar Ali Khan Khosa, Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Agriculture Minister Ahmed Ali Aulakh, Adviser Manshaullah Butt, MNA Saood Majeed and high-ups of relevant department were also present. —APP
