QUETTA, Jan 1: An officer of the Balochistan government and his driver were killed and another man was injured when their car was sprayed with bullets in the Besima area of Kharan district on Tuesday evening.

Sources in the Levies Force said that Under-Secretary Saifuddin Baloch was returning home when unidentified men on a motorbike opened fire at his car.

The officer and his driver died on the spot. Levies personnel took the bodies and the injured to hospital.

Mr Baloch was working as the district head of a non-government organisation on deputation. Levies officials said it was a case of target killing. Meanwhile, the warden of Machh jail was shot dead, police sources said.

Mohammad Ali, who belonged to the Hazara community, was targeted by armed men on motorcyclists at Machh bazaar.

The warden received bullets in his head and died.
