Selectors watch probables

ISLAMABAD, Jan 13: The Pakistan tennis selectors met here on Monday without chairman Saeed Hai, to watch the Davis Cup probables in action at the PTF Complex.

Saeed, said to be still recovering from a recent surgery, could not make it to Islamabad. Other absentees were Rasheed Malik, not in the country and Omer Rashid, who had an important meeting to attend.

A. Samad Khan, Nasir Munir, Jameel Ahmed and Maj Rashid Khan watched the players fight it out.

The selectors decided to meet again on Jan 16 to give final shape to the team for the Davis Cup Asia Oceania Group I tie against New Zealand.

The bosses decided that in the meanwhile the players play another series of trial matches under coach Muhammad Khalid before the final selection is done.

Aisamul Haq and Aqeel Khan have already earned their berths while there is a competition for two remaining slots between Nomi Qamar, Asim Shafik, Shahzad Samad and Shahzad Khan.

The Davis Cup tie in Hamilton is slated for Feb 7-9.
