ISLAMABAD, Jan 13: Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat on Monday inaugurated the office of the superintendent of police set up at the Diplomatic Enclave.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister urged the Islamabad police to make special arrangements for the security of diplomats and maintain law and order.

Mr Hayat was apprised about the special steps taken for the protection of diplomats under which a new police section, headed by a superintendent of police, had been inducted in the Capital police.

Giving further details about the measures being taken for the protection of diplomats, a senior police official said the number of police personnel deployed in the Diplomatic Enclave had been increased from 314 to 631. This was in addition to 585 Frontier Constabulary guards already deployed there, he added.

He further said additional equipment was being provided to the police for its operational requirements. The official said help-line 15 would be extended up to the diplomatic area, so that diplomats could contact it during emergencies.

He said the enclave would be guarded round the clock by patrolling officers.

Meanwhile, the additional interior secretary, Iftikhar Ahmed, was briefed about the steps being taken for the maintenance of law and order in Islamabad. The briefing was given by deputy commissioner Islamabad Tariq Mehmood Khan.
