Sida workers demand salary

Published January 14, 2003

BADIN, Jan 13: The employees of the Lower Sindh Mechanical Division, Sida, Badin, held a protest demonstration against Sida authorities for not paying their salaries for the last eight months.

The protesters, led by the district president, Mechanical Employees Union, Ghani Lashari, were joined by a large number of Sindh Taraqqi Passand Party workers. They marched through the main thoroughfares of the town.

Addressing the protesters, Mr Ghani said that they were regular employees of Sida and were receiving their salaries from the department.

However, their salaries were withheld due to the mala fide intentions of the executive engineer, mechanical division, and the project director, Sida, as they were claiming shortage of funds.

He said that the funds had been released from the finance department but the XEN was unnecessarily creating hurdles for the lower staff.

He said that at least 80 families were facing a starvation-like situation.

PROTEST: A group of the disciples of Pir Hassan Qadir observed a strike by closing their shops in Lowari and staged a sit-in on Karachi-Badin road on Sunday.

They were protesting against the arrival of a rival of their Pir, Pir Mohammad Sadiq.
