SUKKUR, Jan 13: The Kashmor by-elections will be closely contested between Imtiaz Shaikh, president, Sindh Democratic Alliance, and an independent candidate, Ghalib Domki, on PS-18.
The seat was vacated by Sardar Saleem Jan Mazari.
Saleem Jan Mazari had defeated Ghalib Domki in the provincial elections by a big margin and now he has claimed that the same performance would be repeated on Jan 15.
Mr Domki in order to win the sympathies of Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Maher returned the ticket of the PPP and claimed that he had the support of the PML-Q, after which Federal Minister Ghaus Buksh Maher and other provincial ministers, including the chief minister, are reported to be supporting him in the by-elections.
The federal government has directed the provincial government and all the government functionaries to be completely impartial in the by-elections and ensure that they were held fairly.
PML-F: Pakistan Muslim League-F chief organizer Shaikh Sirajuddin has claimed that all factions of the PML will be united by March 23, 2003.
Speaking at a dinner, hosted by Sukkur PML (F) chief Shaikh Sabir for MNA Ms Khurshid Afghan and MPA Naila Inam, Sirajuddin, however, said reunification efforts would only succeed under the guidance of Pir Sahib Pagaro.
Ms Afghan said former MNAs of Sukkur had exploited the people as a result the city was in shambles.
She said she would make efforts to get a university and an engineering college established in Sukkur.
KILLED: A man was killed and his son was injured by bandits in the Jhangi village, Jhangro police station jurisdiction, on Monday morning.
The bandits barged into the house of Abdullah Shaikh for robbery and when the inmates offered resistance, one of them opened fire, injuring Shaikh and his son, Hidayatullah. The injured were taken to the Rojri Hospital where Shaikh died.
