Narcotics being sold openly

NAWABSHAH, Jan 13: Drugs are being openly sold in all the three talukas of the Nawabshaw district, a survey conducted by this correspondent revealed.

Reliable sources said local and excise police were also involved in this business.

They said some constables were deputed by the SHO of each police station of the area for collecting “weeklies and monthlies” and the drug sellers were left free to run the business.

Taj Colony, Bhangwar Colony, Azeem Colony, Essarpura, Camp No 2, Mujahid Colony, Canteen of QUEST, PMC Hospital, Khair Shah village, Daur, 60 Miles, Jam Sahib, Linepar and Bandhi are the areas where drugs are being sold.

The sources told this correspondent drugs were being smuggled from Quetta and then were sent to neighbouring districts.

The Nawabshah police said several operations were carried out in Daleldero, from where drugs are supplied to retailers, but every time they faced a strong resistance as the drug sellers got information of the raid.

When contacted, Nawabshah excise and taxation officer Abdul Fateh Bhutto said due to not having any vehicle and shortage of staff, it was difficult for his department to carry out massive operation against the drug pushers.

DPO Dr Sarwar Jamali said he had received many complaints regarding sale of drugs in the city.

He appealed to the people to point out places where drugs were being sold so that the police could take action against the drug sellers.

CONDOLED: Football player and former PTCL supervisor Syed Samiul Hassan Zaidi died at the age of 64 in Karachi on Saturday after a prolonged illness.

The members of the Nawabshah Press Club condoled the death with Syed Badiul Hassan Zaidi, a local journalist.
