KARACHI: Pakistan clinched a bronze medal by inflicting 2-1 defeat on Saudi Arabia in the playoff for third position in the Asian under-14 tennis team event in Doha on Thursday.

By finishing third in the eight-nation tourney, Pakistan leaped two places as they had to be content with fifth position last year.

Pakistan bt Saudi Arabia 2-1 (Nofil Kaleem lost to Faisal Rebdi 4-6, 6-4, 5-7; Abdal Hyder bt Mohammad Suhagar 6-1, 6-3; Dawer Rehan and Abdal Hyder bt Faisal Rebdi and Mohammad Suhagar 7-5, 6-0).

Semi-final:

Pakistan lost to UAE 1-2 (Nofil Kaleem lost to Aljanal 3-6, 3-6; Dawer Rehan bt Ferris 2-6, 6-1, 6-0; Dawer Rehan and Abdal Hyder lost to Aljanal and Ferris 5-7, 7-5, 3-6).
