Teachers seek upgradation

KOHAT, Dec 21: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa College Teachers Association (PACTA) on Friday demanded time-scale and one-step upgradation.

The demand was made a divisional convention held at the hall of the postgraduate college for boys, participated by the male and female professors and lecturers from Kohat, Hangu and Karak districts. They presented charter of demands and sought early solution to the problems being faced by the teaching community.

The director colleges of the province Prof Ghulam Qasim Marwat was the chief guest.

Provincial chief of the association Prof Nasrullah Yousafzai was also present on the occasion.

The participants demanded a four-tier formula, one-step upgradation and addition of CP fund into the GP fund.

The chief guest listened to the demands and promised to forward them to the higher level. He also advised the teachers to discharge their duties with utmost honesty.—Correspondent

Man shot dead

SWABI, Dec 21: A man was killed over a petty dispute in Jalsai village here on Friday.

Police said Nazim Khan, a shepherd, and Gul Wali, a farmer, had an altercation after sheep of the former entered the fields of the latter. Nazim Khan along with his accomplices attacked Gul Wali, seriously injuring him. He was taken to a local hospital and later referred to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.

An FIR has been registered against Nazim Khan in the Chota Lahor police station.—Correspondent

MFN status for India opposed

PESHAWAR, Dec 21: Activists of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JD) on Friday held a protest demonstration at Sher Shah Suri Road against the government decision for declaring India as Most Favoured Nation (MFN).

The protesters riding motorcycles came out from Fawara chowk Saddar, and passing through Saddar Road reached the press club. They were holding banners and placards inscribed with anti-India slogans. They also shouted slogans against the government’s decision to give MFN status to India.

The rally was led by Attiq-ur-Rahman Chohan, a provincial spokesman of JD. Talking to media persons Mr Chohan said India had constructed more than 62 dams on Pakistan’s rivers in a bid to ‘turn barren our fertile land’.

The JD activists criticised the government for befriending India despite New Delhi being bent upon snatching Pakistan’s resources.—Bureau Report

Protest against police

PESHAWAR, Dec 21: Residents of Peshtakhara Payan on Friday held a protest demonstration against the SHO of local police station for harassing innocent people by conducting raids on their houses at night.

Carrying placards and banners inscribed with demands for taking action against the police, the protesters also appealed to the chief justice of Peshawar High Court to take notice of the highhandedness of police.

Sheheryar Khalil, head of a local NGO, told reporters a police party raided the residence of Prof Mahboob Khan (late) on Tuesday night and held the family members, including women, on gunpoint, adding no female police were present during the raid.

He said during search the police took cash, gold and a pistol with them, saying the SHO also warned to kill the people in fake encounter if they didn’t pay Rs150,000 and withdraw two applications filed in court.—Bureau Report
