KARACHI, Dec 21: The government has decided to ensure provision of security for anti-polio vaccination teams so that the polio eradication campaign could continue.
This decision was taken at a meeting held here on Friday at the home department.
President’s representative Dr Azra Pechuho, prime minister’s representative Begum Shanaz Wazir Ali and the UN representative for polio eradication programme, additional chief secretary of the home department, the police chief, the DG of Rangers, the health secretary, the commissioner and all five deputy commissioners attended the meeting.
It was considered in the meeting that if necessary, services of Rangers to provide security to polio vaccinators could be acquired so that in future there was no security lapse, sources said.
It was also decided to double the amount of remuneration of workers from Rs250 to Rs500 per day.
Earlier, the participants in the meeting were briefed about the progress so far made in connection with the probe into attacks on lady polio vaccinators.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Azra Pechuho and Begum Shahnaz Ali stressed the need for ensuring full protection to teams of the polio eradication programme, the sources added.
