KHAIRPUR, Dec 19: Pir of Gambat Pir Asadullah Shah Jilani was laid to rest in Dargah Ghousia Shareef near his ancestors’ graves, 25 kilometres from here, on Wednesday.

He was above 60 and died after long illness at a private hospital in Karachi late on Tuesday evening.

The funeral prayers were attended by PML-N Sindh chief Syed Ghous Ali Shah, Balochistan Minister Ali Mohammad Mir Jatak, Zafar Ali Shah, MNAs of the area, notables, civil society activists and thousands of the late Pir’s devotees from various parts of Sindh and Balochistan.

Gambat town and its adjoining areas remained shut on Wednesday as a mark of grief on the Pir’s demise.

The late Pir who was also custodian of the family shrine had cordial relations with many politicians of the country.

He was a philanthropist who worked throughout his life for the welfare of his town. He helped establish and finance a dialysis centre, a blood transfusion centre and many wards and departments in the Gambat taluka hospital.

He also played a significant role in the uplift of education in the town, from primary to secondary level.
