PESHAWAR, Dec 9: Awami National Party president Asfandyar Wali Khan announced on Sunday that his party would contest the next elections alone and not go for alliance with other parties, although its doors were open.

Speaking at a press conference here, he said the ANP would spring a surprise in even those constituencies which had never been its strongholds.

Asfandyar Wali urged President Asif Ali Zardari to convene a meeting of all stakeholders to find a permanent solution to the lawlessness in Karachi.

Every Urdu-speaking person in Karachi should not be considered a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement nor should every Pakhtun be treated as a member of the ANP, was the ANP chief’s advice .

Asfandyar Wali expressed reservations over the Lahore High Court’s ruling about the construction of Kalabagh Dam, saying that its chief justice should have thought out the matter before issuing such a “controversial verdict”.
