KARACHI, Jan 10: Fifteen vehicles — three cars and 12 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Friday, police said.

The cars were stolen in Aziz Bhatti, Nazimabad and Boat Basin.

Three motorcycles were hijacked. Nine others were stolen.

Police also claimed on Friday to have recovered four cars and six motorcycles.

INJURED: Car hijackers shot and wounded a man in North Nazimabad on Friday.

Police said that Akhtar Habib, aged 65, was on the way in his car (ACB-560) when car hijackers intercepted him and demanded the keys of the car from him. When he put up resistance to the car hijackers, they opened fire on him and got away with the car.

Akhtar Habib was injured. He was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Later, the car was found abandoned in the police limits of Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan.

ROAD ACCIDENT: A young man died in a road accident in Ferozabad late Thursday night.

Police said that motorcyclist Ziarat Rahim, aged 25, was knocked down by a speeding water tanker on Shahrah-i-Quaideen. He was rushed to Jinnah Post- graduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The tanker driver escaped after the accident.

ROBBERIES: Three robberies were committed in the city on Friday, police said.

Four armed men barged into the house of Akhtar Ali in Korangi K Area, held the occupants of the house hostage at gunpoint and got away with valuables.

In Khwaja Ajmair Nagri police limits, two armed men entered a house, tied up the family, and looted cash and valuables.

Two armed men robbed a young man of his cellular phone in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
