KARACHI, Jan 10: A three-day cardiovascular interventions workshop will be held here from Jan 17 to 19 at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD).

This was announced by the Pakistan Society of Interventional Cardiology (PSIC) here on Friday.

It said the moot was being organized by the PSIC in collaboration with the NICVD.

The theme of the workshop is ‘Cardiovascular interventions in developing countries’.

The moot is aimed at promoting a forum to tailor the advances of cardiovascular interventions around the world to the special medical, economic and social requirements of developing countries such as Pakistan.

About five video conferences are part of the workshop at which modern techniques of heart surgeries, to be conducted through latest tubes and medical instruments without any apparent cut on chest, would be shown live on the internet across Pakistan.

The statement said the country’s largest internet service provider, Cybernet, and Johnsons and Johnsons would collaborate with the NICVD and the PSIC to show the surgeries live in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, and also in New York through the internet simultaneously. Cardio units at all the cities would be connected with a network and physicians, surgeons and medical staff would directly take part in the process.

It said that as many as eight surgeries have been planned to be shown live through this video-conference arrangements.

As many as 12 specialists and medical experts from different countries will present papers and exchange information and experiences with experts in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. The statement also said that parts of the workshop with content of general public interest would be telecast through the Pakistan Television.—APP
