KARACHI: The government has been urged to ensure supply of compressed natural gas (CNG) to all users of vehicles and maintain its present price level and if CNG dealers are facing losses at current prices, then the government should sort out this matter and taxes should be cut to adjust CNG prices.

This demand was made by different parties representatives present in a conference organised by the Jamaat-i-Islami at its party office Idara Noor-i-Haq on Monday.

Muhammad Hussain Mehanti of the JI, PML-N’s Salim Zia, Hafeezuddin of TI, Mufti Mohammad Usman Yar Khan of JUI-S, Maulana Abdul Sattar Madani of the JUI-N, Syed Zia Abbas of the NPP, Siddique Rathore of the JUP, and Mehfoozyar Khan of the PML-A addressed the meeting and approved a resolution in this connection.

The resolution highlighted the need to formulate a national policy on energy crisis and called upon the government to expedite the process of implementing a gas supply accord with Iran to overcome the gas crisis.

Earlier the speakers maintained that closure of CNG stations on and off had made people’s lives miserable.

“The government and dealers of the CNG stations ought to have mercy on people by reducing taxes and owners of the stations should end their protest and the government should also implement the gas accord with Iran,” they demanded. They claimed that there were enough reserves of gas in the country, but by creating an artificial crisis people were being made to suffer.—Staff Reporter
