WAZIRABAD, Dec 1: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Saturday that the Council of Common Interests (CCI) would decide disputed issues like the Kalabagh Dam project.

Talking to journalists here on Saturday, Mr Kaira said the CCI had been formed to decide disputed matters among the provinces and it had been strengthened under the 18th Amendment.

If the CCI failed to decide any issue, then it would be taken up by parliament, he added.

The Lahore High Court ordered the federal government on Thursday to start the construction of the controversial dam.

Without naming the LHC, Mr Kaira said the PPP respected judiciary because a democratic setup was incomplete without an independent judiciary.

Answering a question, the minister said the PPP would enter into an alliance with the PML-Q to jointly contest the elections.—APP
