ISLAMABAD, Jan 8: Minister for Information and Media Development Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Wednesday termed the latest nuclear threats by India fantasy of Indian leadership.

“It is just a reflection of India’s shattering dream of establishing its hegemony in the region,” he said in an interview to a foreign wire service.

Pakistan, he said, was a responsible state and unlike India it had never boasted of its nuclear capability.

The minister said, Indian Defence Minister George Fernandes was well-known for his anti-Pakistan rhetoric.

“His threat that Pakistan would be wiped out in the event of a nuclear conflict reflected India’s fascist policies which it has adopted to maintain its racial supremacy,” said the minister.

The information minister also rejected Indian minister’s statement “baseless” which claimed that President Pervez Musharraf spoke of using nuclear weapons.

President Musharraf, he said, had made it clear time and again that no sensible person could ever think of using nuclear weapons.

“Mr Fernandes, while wilfully ignoring this reality, is levelling baseless allegations against Pakistan to score political mileage, a trend which has been amply demonstrated by the fanatic Hindu leadership during the recent state elections in Gujrat,” the minister added.

He said the Indian threats were aimed at pressuring Pakistan into giving up the moral, political and diplomatic support, which it was extending to the Kashmiri people fighting for their right to self- determination in Indian held Kashmir. —APP
