Two cops held for death in custody

KASUR, Jan 8: The autopsy report of a man, who was allegedly tortured to death by police late Tuesday night, is still awaited.

Sabzi Mandi SI Abdul Rehman had arrested Muhammad Rafique (40) in an abduction case and tortured him to death during interrogation. Later, the SI along with headconstable Basharat Ali and razakar Muhammad Ashiq threw the body in the fields of Sheikh Ahmad Kuhna village. After getting information, Saddar police took the body into custody and sent it to the local DHQ Hospital for autopsy.

On the complaint of deceased’s brother, the Kasur DPO had a case registered against the three policemen. The police also arrested headconstable Basharat and razakar Ashiq while SI Rehman managed to escape. It was learnt that the SI got an interim bail from a local court.

Meanwhile, the local district and sessions judge directed the Saddar SHO to get registered a case against SI Arif Ali for keeping a woman in an illegal confinement.

Hanifan Bibi recovered by a bailiff was released on Wednesday.
