IT is insensitive on our part not to design our buildings, roads, pathways, etc., keeping in mind the need of special persons with special needs. The situation has become adverse, especially in our educational institutions where many students are seen struggling to survive.

To start with, there are always staircases at the entrance of the universities without having any ramps. Once this hurdle is passed, the size of the classroom doors does not allow a wheelchair to be brought in.

Moreover, the class schedules are made so that the classes are held on top floors without realising the fact that there exist no lifts.

Though as a nation we have become insensitive to the plight of fellow human beings, at least a few very basic steps can be taken to ensure that the ones who need our help the most are taken care of.
