ISLAMABAD, Nov 22: Because of unavailability of funds from the government, educational institutions in the city have started generating funds on their own to complete development projects.

On Thursday, the foundation of a science block was laid at the Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG), F-6/2. The six-room building costing Rs7.5 million will be constructed from funds generated by the institution.

Rehana Rashid, the principal of the college, while talking to Dawn said the college needed the new block because the strength of the students had increased to 3,000.

“We did financial management and saved Rs7.5 million by collecting fees and student funds for construction of the building,” she added. “Contract for the construction of the new block has been awarded to Public Works Department (PWD) which has assured us that the project would be completed by February 2013,” she said.

It may be mentioned that in September 2012, the college also constructed a computer lab from fees and student funds which are normally spent on purchase of vehicles, stationery etc.
