NEW DELHI, Jan 7: Indian middle-distance runner Sunita Rani will regain the medals she won at the 2002 Asian Games after being clearing of a doping charge, Asian Olympic authorities announced on Tuesday.
Rani, 23, will receive the gold medal she won in the 1,500m and her 5,000m bronze after they were taken away following a positive test for the banned steroid nandrolone at the games in Busan in October.
“The Olympic Council of Asia is now pleased to confirm that it has cleared Rani of all charges and is extremely pleased to reinstate her and return her medals,” OCA president Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah said in a statement from Kuwait.—Reuters
