KARACHI, Nov 22: Two improvised explosive devices were found near different Imambargahs in Orangi and Baldia towns on Thursday, police said.

In Orangi Town, the IED was spotted at an under-construction post meant for Rangers personnel, situated some 200 feet from Imambargah Ali, in Qasba Colony on Thursday morning, said DIG (west) Javed Odho.

“A labourer working at the kiosk when lifted a concrete block found a cellphone hanging from a brick attached with the wires,” said a senior police officer of the west zone police.

Subsequently, the personnel of bomb disposal unit were called who defused the bomb.

“It weighed between three and four kilos. The explosives were laced with pellets and connected with a cellphone, a detonator and a battery, the IED has been embedded in a cement block,” the DIG said.

Later in the evening, another IED weighing around five kilo was found near an Imambargah in Baldia Town within the remit of the Mochko police station.

“The IED was found from a nullah located close to an Imambargah in Baldia Town,” said DIG (west) Odho.

The BDS officials defused the IED, which looked like a pipe bomb, contained ball bearings and was connected to a detonator and a battery, the senior officer said.

Meanwhile, police and Rangers conducted raids in different parts of the city and picked up about a dozen suspects who were being questioned.
