MIRPURKHAS, Nov 21: Eighteen peasants who had been recovered from illegal detention from a landlord’s farm were released by additional sessions judge Mirpurkhas after their statements were recorded on Wednesday.

A few days ago, Geno Kolhi had submitted an application with the sessions court complaining that 18 of his relatives were detained at the farm of landlord Abdullah Chohan within the limits of Tando Jan Mohammad police station. The applicant stated that the labourers were being held by force and not allowed to move freely. They were deprived of their share in crop and were also being given no livelihood and health facilities.

Mr Kolhi requested the session’s court to order the SHO concerned to raid the farm and recover the detained peasants. The police raided the farm on Tuesday night and took the 18 peasants who were being held against their will into their custody.

They were presented in court on Wednesday and were released afterwards.
