ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Qamar Zaman Kaira on Monday said that the country came into being through politics and the same will help it further strengthen.

Talking to a private television channel, he said political system and politicians were defamed during dictatorial regime which harmed the democratic culture in the country.

Qamar Zaman Kaira said President Asif Ali Zardari's address to Khyber Pakhtunnkhwa (KPK) Assembly can be considered as a landmark achievement in democratic history of country.

Kaira said there is no sign for postponement of general election in the country nor there is any uncertainty in this regard.

Replying to a question, he said general elections could be held in the first or second week of May 2013.

He said in the presence of free media, independent judiciary, vibrant civil society and independent Election Commission, there was no chance of delaying general elections.

The Minister said the government would complete its constitutional tenure and for the first time in country's political history, Pakistan Muslim League (N) will take part free and fair elections without any support from hidden forces.

He said the government will not compromise on Karachi and peace will be maintained.

He expressed the confidence that people would vote in favor of present government on the basis of its performance.
