PESHAWAR, Nov 16: Police foiled on Friday possible sabotage attempts by defusing two bombs at Frontier Road near Aziz Market area in suburbs of Peshawar. While a bomb went off on the same road targeting police, however, no one was hurt.

An official of rural police said three bombs had been planted at different places along the Frontier Road and the actual target seemed to be police. He said two of the bombs were successfully defused, while one of the improvised explosive devices was detonated by the suspected militants with remote control. However, the police escaped unhurt.“We timely got the information about presence of the bombs and called the personnel of Bomb Disposal Unit, who after hectic efforts defused the bombs.

Meanwhile, the Friday prayers were offered in the cantonment and city areas under tight security where the police remained on alert and carried out body search of the people at gates of the mosques.

The police in the city areas also continued checking people in the most sensitive areas closed to Imambargahs.

ROOMS GUTTED: Fire broke out on the second floor of Park Inn hotel near Shuba Bazaar but the rescuers managed to rescue the people safely. According to Rescue1122 workers, the cause of fire was short-circuiting which burnt at least three rooms, furniture and other valuable things. The fire was controlled within two hours.

ARRESTED: Police arrested 14 owners of different tea shops for screening movies in violation of the government decision to stop such things in Muharram. The people were arrested by a raiding party led by Assistant Coordination Officer Habibullah Arif and special magistrate Niamatullah in Qissa Khwani, Dabgari Garden, Nishtarabad, Cinema Road and Pejagi Road areas. — Bureau Report
