SWABI, Nov 16: People of Batakara and Pontya villages have declared that they would not allow polio teams to administer vaccine to their children to protest against ‘grave irregularities’ committed in allotment of their lands by the revenue department.

A few months back the revenue department conducted fresh land allotment process in the two villages, provoking the people to protest as it was not done as per the rules, according to residents.

Participants of a jirga of the area on Friday were extremely angry over the revenue department, saying the department had committed great blunders in transfer of land. Prominent among them who attended the jirga were Umer Hayat, Mohammad Amin, Sahib Rehman and others.

The villagers demanded of the department to rectify the mistakes committed during the transfer of their lands.

They said even the genuine owners had been deprived of their property, transferring it to others. Similarly, they said even roads, mosques and graveyards had been allotted to different people, creating great confusion for the villagers.

They said there were about 2,500 children below five years of age and they would not allow the polio staff to administer vaccine to children as a protest against the mistakes committed by the officers and staff of the district revenue department.

SHOT DEAD: Three people were killed and four others injured when rival groups clashed in Kalu Khan area on Monday.

Police said members of Umeray group were going to Dagai when their rivals, Kundy Group, attacked them near Janglu bridge.

As a result Shahzad Khan and Asif Khan of Umeray group were killed and Numan Khan and Jan Afsar were injured. Both the groups belong to Mangai village.

During the exchange of fire, Muzamil Khan of Kunday group was also killed and Mursaleen was injured. Both groups registered FIRs against each other in the Kalu Khan police station.

Officials identified the fourth injured as Jan Afsar, a proclaimed offender, who was whisked away his colleagues from the spot.
