KARACHI, Nov 16: The government plans to continue its campaign to provide pneumococcal vaccine throughout the country to protect millions of under-5 children from deadly pneumonia.
The campaign has already been undertaken in Punjab and Sindh and millions of children have been vaccinated. It will now be launched in Balochistan, says a press release issued by the Expanded Programme on Immunisations (EPI).
The vaccine will be available at all EPI centres set up in cities, district headquarters, rural health centres, province-run government hospitals and special dedicated units.
Parents have been advised to visit EPI centres to get their children vaccinated against pneumonia. A child should get the first pneumococcal vaccine in the sixth week after birth, second in the 10th week and third in the 14th week.
