KARACHI, Nov 15: Sindh number one and fourth seed in national ranking Maheen Dada qualified for the final of the Subh-e-Nau Tennis Championship at the KMC Sports Complex on Thursday.

Maheen, who had lost her final against Rida Khalid two weeks ago in the NBP National Tennis, played dominating tennis against Wania Khan.

She defeated her opponent in straight sets.

Maheen will play Hania Naveed in the final who defeated Urooj Iltefat in the second semi-final of ladies singles.

Hania was three games up in the second set after winning the first one convincingly when Urooj announced to retire due to health problem.

The ladies singles final will be played on Friday.

Dawar Rehan clinched the boys’ U-14 title after beating M. Raza Sawani in a well-contested final.

Both players showed great skills, however, Dawar played better to get the title.

Dawar will also play boys’ U-18 final against Aqeel Shabbir on Friday.

Mohammad Dada, younger brother of Maheen Dada, qualified for the final of boys’ U-11 category.

His opponent Amin Shafi resisted well but was down in the decisive set.

Mohammad Ahmed was the other player to qualify for the final of this category.

He was declared winner against Shahzil Malik due to rude behaviour of the player and his parents.

Shahzil was 2-1 up in the first set when he left the court with no solid reason and refused to continue his match. Despite repeated calls from referee and organisers, Shahzil’s parents did not cooperate.

Organisers were forced to give a decision in favour of Ahmed.

Boys’ U-11 final will also be played on Friday.

Subh-e-Nau has invited Nomi Qamar as the chief guest for the finals and prize-distribution ceremony in recognition of his services for tennis in Pakistan.

Nomi has won men’s singles final of this championship.

Results: Ladies singles: Semi-finals: Maheen Dada bt Wania Khan 6-1, 6-0; Hania Naveed bt Urooj Iltefat 6-0, 3-0 (Urooj retired).

Boys’ U-14: Final: Dawar Rehan bt M. Raza Sawani 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
