ISLAMABAD, Nov 13: The city administration here on Tuesday unearthed a clinic operated by quacks and a medical store selling drugs without a legal licence.

An operation was launched by the city administration in response to directives from the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Islamabad, Amir Ali Ahmed. The DC was approached by people residing in rural areas, including Tarnol and Bharakau, with complaints that quacks were operating in their areas openly and demanded action against them.

A team comprising district health officer (DHO) and drug inspector raided 10 clinics and five medical stores in Tarnol and found them in violation of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Ordinance 2012 and Drug Act 1976.

DHO Dr Mohammad Azhar told Dawn that a clinic was sealed under the drug act, where unqualified doctors were employed.

During the operation, three clinics in the area were found closed, he said, adding that it was suspected that the clinics were being run by quacks and they escaped to avoid action against them.

In response the management of the clinic was booked under PMDC Ordinance and would be sent in the court of magistrate for further legal action.

Besides, three other clinics were also served notices for working without proper waste management system.

A medical store was also sealed for its involvement in selling narcotic drugs without a licence.

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
