KARACHI, Nov 12: Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro on Monday ruled out any move to divide Sindh, saying that the Pakistan People’s Party was the custodian of the province and would continue to play its due role in this regard.
He said that the government was taking all measures to check ongoing killings and maintain peace in Karachi.
Mr Khuhro said this while speaking to the media after a meeting with Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Greg Gokas in the assembly chamber on Monday.
Replying to a question, the Sindh Assembly speaker condemned the bloodbath in Karachi and said that the loss of innocent lives could not be tolerated.
The government was taking all necessary measures to check the menace of killings and maintain peace in the city, he said.
He said that the police and Rangers needed to take indiscriminate action to control the law and order situation and the officials who had failed to perform their duty had no right to remain on their posts.
Mr Khuhro said the metropolis could be rid of weapons with the help of all political parties in Sindh.
In reply to another question, he said there was no move to divide Sindh, saying that the province was not a ‘cake’ that could be sliced off.
“Sindh will always remain unified and if any difficult time comes the PPP will always be at the forefront.”
He said the general elections would be held after March next year.
He claimed that after the judgment of the apex court in the Asghar Khan case the real face of Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif was exposed and he ought to be disqualified for “receiving money from the ISI to rig the polls in 1990s”.
Earlier during the Sindh Assembly speaker’s meeting with the Canadian high commissioner, Pakistan-Canada relations, law and order situation and other matters of mutual interests were discussed, officials said.
The Canadian high commissioner was also briefed about the legislation carried out in the Sindh Assembly.
On the occasion the speaker also presented traditional Sindhi gifts of Ajrak and cap to the Canadian high commissioner.
