NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Nov 12: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed the by-election for PS-21 seat originally scheduled for Nov 17.

District Election Commissioner Azhar Hussain Tanwri told Dawn on Monday that he had received an ECP notification in this regard.

He said Muharram would start before Nov 17 and, therefore, the date for the by-election had been forwarded to Dec 4.

Our Nawabshah correspondent adds: Nawabshah Deputy Commissioner Rasheed Ahmed Zardari has said the administration will take measures to maintain law and order during the month of Muharram and thwart miscreants’ evil designs for the month.

Presiding over a meeting of religious leaders of both the sects and officials concerned at Darbar hall on Monday, the official urged the faithful to demonstrate patience during the holy month.

If they had any information about miscreants’ plans or complaints they should inform the control room set up at his office and let the administration handle the situation, he said.
