IT is such an apathy that now the government and heads of security apparatuses in Karachi have got into the shoes of dream merchants who, after every major protest by the traders, industrialists and even salaried strata of the society, resort to selling dreams to a common Karachiite.

It is a dream which every resident of Karachi cherish and that is an extortion-free society where any mother would not be bothered about the safety of her family members who go out to earn bread for the family or to seek education.

But what happens is that the chief minister and the governor, after meeting the aggrieved citizens, order higher security in the affected areas and rely only on lip-service, which is not helping society.

Even the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged the Sindh government to take serious notice of the law and order situation in Karachi and immediately initiate steps to arrest fast surging crime graph. But for that the high and mighty of Sindh should act and forget the compromises to run their coalition and at least for once work for the betterment of the city.

I have full confidence in the ability of law enforcers because when they want to do something they achieve it without fail and delay. Effective deployment of Rangers provided a peaceful atmosphere during the three days of Eidul Azha, when violence occurs over the hides of sacrificial animals.

Just because of this peaceful atmosphere different parties collected a record number of hides during these three days without the loss of a single life. As it was in the interest the major players in the province to keep the city calm, they used Rangers to do the job. It is an SOS message to inspector-general of police and director-general of Rangers to provide security to a common man and traders of Karachi, who have become endangered species in the prevailing lawlessness in the city.
