KARACHI, Nov 6: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that Saleem Mandviwalla is the most suitable candidate for the senate seat which has fallen vacant after the resignation of Dr Asim Hussain.

Speaking to journalists at the provincial Election Commission here on Tuesday after Mr Mandviwalla filed his nomination papers, the chief minister said Mr Mandviwalla’s performance as chairman of the Board of Investment had been impressive and he had succeeded in bringing considerable investment to the country.

Earlier, Mr Mandviwalla accompanied by the chief minister, PPP leaders and Sindh Ministers Ayaz Soomro, Sharjeel Inam Memon, Zahid Bhurgari, Nadeem Bhutto, Rafiq Engineer, Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto and others filed his nomination papers.

Senior PPP leader Rashid Hussain Rabbani also filed his nomination papers as a covering candidate.

Meanwhile, the chief minister called on the Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, retired Justice Fakharudin G. Ebrahim, at his office on Tuesday and discussed matters relating to holding of elections in a free, fair and impartial manner in the country, said a statement.

The CM said that there should be no interference and elections should be held in a fair and free atmosphere.

The election for the senate seat will be held on Nov 21 at the Sindh Assembly building and polling will start at 9am and finish at 4pm, according to a press release issued by the ECP.—APP
