KARACHI, Nov 5: The traffic police department has designed an alternative roadmap for the convenience of visitors and commuters during the five days — from Nov 7 to 11 — when the international event of IDEAS 2012 will remain under way at the Expo Centre.

Motorists have been advised to follow the temporary traffic route plan during the five days.

All heavy and commercial vehicles coming from the airport and proceeding towards Stadium via Karsaz shall be diverted towards Baloch Colony flyover from where they can proceed after making a U-turn under the Tipu Sultan flyover towards Shaheed-i-Millat Road to approach Jail Chowrangi, University Road and surrounding area.

All public and heavy vehicles coming from Gharibabad to proceed towards Karsaz shall be diverted before Hassan Square flyover towards University Road, (right) U-turn, Jafri Optics, KDA Society, National Stadium backside, Dalmia, Stadium Road to Karsaz and onwards.

All public and heavy vehicles coming from NIPA towards Hassan Square, Civic Centre shall be diverted from Jafri Optics (left) towards KDA Society (backside of National Stadium), Stadium Road via the Steel Yard cut and right towards Aga Khan Hospital or H.I. Road onwards.

The drivers of public and heavy vehicles coming from Sohrab Goth towards the city area are advised to use Shahrah-i-Pakistan and Shershah Suri Road. Traffic coming from University Road towards the city area may use NIPA, Rashid Minhas Road.

According to instructions of the traffic police, no vehicle will be permitted to park along the route and at and around Expo Centre i.e. Sir Shah Mohammad Suleman Road Stadium crossing to Hassan Square and Hassan Square to Baitul Mukkaram mosque. The route will be kept clear from all parking and other obstructions.

The Stadium Road will remain open for vehicular traffic during IDEAS-2012. However, the road will temporarily be close from Hassan Square up to the Stadium intersection from 8am up to 6pm during the five days.

The traffic police chief instructed that vehicles bearing stickers issued by the IDEAS management would only be allowed to proceed from the Stadium flyover to the Expo Centre.

However, rest of the vehicular traffic will be diverted towards the Stadium Road under the Stadium flyover from where the drivers can turn towards KDA Society behind National Stadium and then turn left behind the National Stadium to proceed towards Jafri Optics and onward towards University Road.

The drivers going towards old Sabzi Mandi and Gharibabad will be allowed to turn left and proceed to their destination via the New Town police station.

On Nov 8, Aiwan-i-Saddar Road will be closed for all kind of traffic from 6pm to 12am. No vehicle will be allowed to be parked on A.H. Road Club Chowk up to Musical Fountain. Drivers are requested to proceed via Club Road and Dean Mohammad Wafai Road (PIA booking office) towards Shaheen Complex and onwards, he added. —PPI
