KARACHI: Mr Z.A. Bhutto, Minister for Rehabilitation and Natural Resources, said yesterday that Pakistan would not support India in its present crisis over the border dispute with China.

About India’s request for understanding and sympathy in its border dispute, he said Pakistan was not prepared to discuss any-thing unless India quits Kashmir.

Speaking in Sindhi at a public meeting at Lyari last night, the Minister appealed to the people to unite.

Mr Bhutto said that three years back, the Indian Prime Minister, Mr Nehru, rejected the generous offer of President Ayub for a joint Indo-Pakistan defence pact on the plea that India had no enemies. But now that India is having a tough time with China on its northern border, Mr Nehru has proposed a joint defence of the sub-continent, the Minister said.

Condemning Pakistani politicians, who are demanding democratisation of the Constitution, the Minister said how could they democratise when they themselves made a mockery of democracy.

Amidst thunderous applause, Mr Bhutto asked whether the President was the enemy of the country. If it was so, it is for the people to judge because “I want people’s democracy and not telephone democracy.” — Staff Correspondent
