QUETTA, Jan 4: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) would not take any action against any officer or employee of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTCL) in future as the company would itself conduct inquiry against the “corrupt officials”.

This was stated by the Chairman of the Joint Action Committee of the PTCL officers and workers, Mohammad Rafiq Awan, at a meeting here on Saturday.

He claimed that the PTCL and the NAB had reached an understanding in this regard, following which, the NAB would unconditionally release all PTCL officers and employees arrested in Quetta last month, in next few days.

Awan said it had been decided that in future the PTCL itself would conduct inquiry against the “corrupt officials” of the company according to its own rules and regulations, and those found guilty would be punished. The NAB or any other agency, he added, would not arrest the PTCL officials.

He further said that the PTCL authorities concerned had accepted 80 per cent demands of the action committee, while negotiations were under way on the remaining demands.

The chairman of the PTCL had taken special interest in resolving the issue and held talks with President Gen Pervez Musharraf, NAB chairman, federal minister for communication and other officials concerned in this connection, Awan said.

The Joint Action Committee chairman announced that struggle would continue till the release of all PTCL employees.
