PESHAWAR, Nov 1: The disgruntled workers of Pakistan People’s Party here on Thursday criticised the party leadership for its ‘failure’ to resolve their problems, saying they would launch a protest drive for acceptance of their demands.

Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club, PPP Workers Ittehad divisional chairman Shaukat Khan Mohmand said that the party leadership totally ignored diehard workers and failed to take any proactive step for resolution to their problems during the past over four years.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the inquiry conducted in the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, he called for immediate arrest of the killers and exemplary punishment to them.

Mr Mohmand also demanded removal of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar for what he called not giving attention to the problems of PPP workers.

He said that PPP was formed for welfare and betterment of workers and downtrodden. “But now the poor workers have no value in the party and only wealthy and rich people are being obliged,” he said.

Mr Mohmand alleged that some party leaders were ‘selling’ jobs and depriving the diehard party workers of their rights. He alleged that such PPP leaders were serving their personal interests.

He said that workers had rendered sacrifices for the party but they were not given attention. “The PPP Workers Ittehad will be strengthened after making consultations with all disgruntled activists in different districts,” he added. Mr Mohmand said that workers wanted replacement of PPP Peshawar president and general secretary. He said that party tickets should be awarded to the diehard workers, who worked for the party at difficult times, to contest the upcoming general elections. —Bureau
