KARACHI, Oct 24: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that Thar coal is the most feasible fuel for power plants that are being converted to coal and the new coal-based power plants in Jamshoro and other areas.

The chief minister said this while speaking at a meeting held with board of directors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) at the CM House, said an official statement issued here on Wednesday.

The chief minister appreciated the role of the ADB in development of Pakistan, especially Sindh. The ADB team leader, Maurin Sitorus, thanked him for hospitality. The ADB official said that the bank had been the most reliable development partner in Pakistan since 1966.

The chief minister highlighted the potential of Thar coal for power generation.

He appreciated the engagement of the ADB in financing the conversion of GENCO oil-based power plants to coal and establishment of new 600 megawatts coal-based power plant in Jamshoro. He urged the ADB to use Thar coal for upcoming coal-based power plants in Jamshoro.

ADB country director Werner Liepach dispelled the impression that the ADB had  reservations over technical viability of the use of Thar coal for power plants.—APP
